What makes an art deco engagement ring? Find out and find your own!

Vintage-style art deco rings are named after the Art Deco design style of the 1920s and 30s. Not sure what we mean? Think of the geometric patterns on The Chrysler Building or the Empire State Building in N.Y.C., or on covers of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Simply put, we think art deco engagement rings are the bee’s knees. Scroll down to discover why!
WHAT MAKES AN ART DECO ENGAGEMENT RING?
Art Deco Engagement Rings: Geometric Halos
The Art Deco era was all about geometric symmetry, and art deco halo rings are no exception! Inspired by architecture, these angular halos give their rings a glamorous edge.

Art Deco Engagement Rings: Baguette Cut
Baguette cut diamonds were super popular during the Art Deco era. These gems are step-cut like emerald cut diamonds, but with square corners. Baguettes make for great center diamonds and can also shine as engagement ring side stones (P.S. Want to learn more? We’ve got this one in the baguette.)

Art Deco Engagement Rings: Milgrain
Another style that characterizes art deco engagement rings: milgrain detailing, i.e. those beaded dots that look like glittering stitches in the metal. Milgrain detailing lends your diamonds a level up, adding a delicate and flirty frame.

Art Deco Engagement Rings: Diamond Shapes
Along with baguette cut diamonds, two other shapes were the talk of the town: cushion cut diamonds and asscher cut diamonds. Cushion cut diamonds are square with rounded corners and are one of the first cuts ever. Chosen by modern celebrities from Jessica Biel to Sofia Vergara, their crushed ice appearance creates a romantic glow.

Asscher cut diamonds were also super popular in the Gatsby era. However, this shape is still loved for its glacier-like clarity and “hall of mirrors” geometric effect. Case in point: Elizabeth Taylor and Pippa Middleton (a.k.a. grace and style personified) both chose asscher cut engagement rings.
