Vintage-style art deco rings are named after the Art Deco design style of the 1920s and 30s. Not sure what we mean? Think of the geometric patterns on The Chrysler Building or the Empire State Building in N.Y.C., or on covers of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Simply put, we think art deco engagement rings are the bee’s knees. Scroll down to discover why!
The Art Deco era was all about geometric symmetry, and art deco halo rings are no exception! Inspired by architecture, these angular halos give their rings a glamorous edge.
Baguette cut diamonds were super popular during the Art Deco era. These gems are step-cut like emerald cut diamonds, but with square corners. Baguettes make for great center diamonds and can also shine as engagement ring side stones (P.S. Want to learn more? We’ve got this one in the baguette.)
Another style that characterizes art deco engagement rings: milgrain detailing, i.e. those beaded dots that look like glittering stitches in the metal. Milgrain detailing lends your diamonds a level up, adding a delicate and flirty frame.
Along with baguette cut diamonds, two other shapes were the talk of the town: cushion cut diamonds and asscher cut diamonds. Cushion cut diamonds are square with rounded corners and are one of the first cuts ever. Chosen by modern celebrities from Jessica Biel to Sofia Vergara, their crushed ice appearance creates a romantic glow.
Asscher cut diamonds were also super popular in the Gatsby era. However, this shape is still loved for its glacier-like clarity and “hall of mirrors” geometric effect. Case in point: Elizabeth Taylor and Pippa Middleton (a.k.a. grace and style personified) both chose asscher cut engagement rings.
Now trending: the most obsession-worthy celebrity rings of 2019 so far! Get your engagement ring inspiration from these rocks with superstar quality.
It’s been a year of gorgeous celeb love already, and we’re only three months in! Can you say engagement ring inspiration?? From colorful center stones to elongated diamond shapes (spoilers: there are a lot of those), these celebrities have sparked the hottest engagement ring trends of 2019.
THE KATY PERRY ENGAGEMENT RING
Baby, this is a firework! A true lord of the rings, actor Orlando Bloom proposed to pop superstar Katy Perry with a floral diamond halo surrounding a pink center stone. The perfect choice for a colorful and playful artist.
Surprise: this Silver Linings Playbook actress got engaged with a gleaming silvery metal band. J. Law’s fiancé Cooke Maroney proposed with a simple solitaire that pulls all the attention to its modern emerald cut diamond.
Tell me how to say yes to this! Cephas Jones’ Hamilton co-star Anthony Ramos blew us all away with this three-stone stunner. The ring maximizes the trend factor by incorporating not un, not deux, but trois emerald cut stones.
Melissa Benoist’s glee was overwhelming when her “Supergirl” co-star Chris Wood proposed with an oval cut diamond surrounded by a pavé halo. The engagement ring halo is our kryptonite – it makes an elongated diamond sparkle even more brilliantly.
Guardian of the galaxy Chris Pratt proposed to his author girlfriend with a jaw-dropping cushion cut ring. Although many cushion cut diamonds are more symmetrical, Schwarzenegger rocks a colossal elongated cut. And when you add the micro-pavé band? Everything is awesome.
Twenty-One Pilots drummer Josh Dun proposed to actress Debby Ryan in a New Zealand treehouse (!) with a three-stone beauty that makes our hearts skip a beat. Her angular side stones add a modern edge to an already trendy emerald cut center.
Way to go, Roger! Sister, Sister actor and musician Marques Houston posted dreamy shots of his proposal to girlfriend Miya X. Her ring features a cushion cut center stone set in a pavé style. In addition to the diamond-encrusted band, her diamond is held by a glittering basket.
We’re split between what we love more about this Victoria’s Secret model’s engagement: musician Alexander DeLeon’s (a.k.a. Bohnes) angelic proposal under the northern lights, or her emerald cut diamond split-shank ring. We’re open to both!
With this much frost, we say let it snow! Brittany Snow’s fiancé Tyler Stanaland proposed with a modern classic – a pavé engagement ring with diamonds along the band. The diamond detailing complements a brilliant round cut center.

The results are in! We surveyed 2,800 women about engagement ring etiquette – what are the rules for getting engaged, and which of those rules are meant to be broken?
Engagement Ring Etiquette: “The 2 Months’ Salary Rule”
There’s an age-old myth that you’re supposed to decide how much to spend on the engagement ring based on how much you’d earn in two months. However, when we actually asked, 69% of women disagreed. The engagement ring etiquette consensus: a ring should cost whatever you can afford – the relationship is the most important thing.
It might be best to stay away from dramatic and/or jumbo-tron proposals; 56% of women surveyed said they prefer an intimate proposal with just the two of you, while 28% said they want something small with close friends and family. Only 4% told us they’d rather go big than go home.
So when it comes to heterosexual partnerships, are guys always supposed to be the ones to pop the question? In this modern age, survey says… mostly yes. 79% of women said the guy should propose. On the other hand, 12% said they have no problem with a woman proposing to the man, while 9% said they’d only propose if their guys waited around for too long.
Collaboration is key! 84% of women surveyed said they’d be happy to drop hints, provide pictures, or tell friends/family about the engagement ring they prefer. Might as well make it a date night activity; 15% of women surveyed said they want to look at rings with their partners. Meanwhile, only 3% of women said they’d keep it straightforward and tell their partner their exact ring choice.
The answers to this one were surprisingly split – 58% said they think their partner should save up and pay for the engagement ring alone, while 42% are open to sharing the check (with 26% adding the caveat that he can’t afford it on his own). Looking for the absolute best engagement ring option for your budget? We’re here for you, 24/7 – chat with customer service now.

Calling all glove-wearing doctors, athletes, bakers, hairdressers, researchers, gardeners, and non-stop women out there: these are the best engagement rings for active lifestyles!
If you or your SO’s day-to-day includes a lot of hands-on work, you might want to opt for a more durable engagement ring style. That doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice on sparkle! Engagement rings for active lifestyles can be just as modern, blingy, or unique as any – it’s all a matter of finding the perfect ring.
The less the sides of the diamond are exposed, the better; and bezel settings are a super-sleek way to get that done. The bezel setting is one of those low profile engagement rings that will keep your center stone safest, encasing the diamond so that its facets shine securely.
One way to prevent diamonds from falling off your engagement ring band? Go for a clean solitaire! Solitaire engagement ring settings are timeless and can minimize stress.
The wider the band, the more securely it holds the center diamond. This is one of the low profile engagement rings that will never get in your way. Plus, we love how this specific ring adds a touch of bezel sparkle on the sides!
One note to keep in mind: wider bands tend to be better for those with larger hands, while they may overwhelm those with hands that are more petite.
In addition to keeping your diamonds in place, platinum’s high shine brings out diamond brilliance. Platinum engagement rings are also a low-maintenance, hypoallergenic choice for those with metal sensitivities.
Similar to pavé engagement rings, the bands of channel-set engagement rings are lined with diamonds. However, these diamonds are secured by a thin strip of metal rather than prongs, so they won’t catch on fabric! Add a low basket, and you’ve got low profile engagement rings that will accompany you on all your adventures.
We’ve got to hand it to you! Read on for even more beautiful ring options with super-secure sparkle: gorgeous low profile engagement rings that can keep up with your crazy life!

BRILLIANT TIPS FOR DIAMOND CARE
Take Care of Your Diamond Cleaning
No need to bring your diamonds in for cleaning – here are the DIY methods to keep your diamond engagement ring and diamond jewelry looking just like new:
1. Soak and Scrub
Everyone can use a good bubble bath, and your jewelry is no exception! Take care of your diamond rings and jewelry with a little TLC, making sure no gems come loose.
Soak your jewelry in a solution of mild dish soap and warm water for a few minutes. Afterward, carefully scrub the metal using a soft cloth, cotton swab, or gentle toothbrush, then rinse.
2. Get Intense Shine
For extra shine in your yellow gold, rose gold, or platinum jewelry, you can follow up the mild dish soap soak with window cleaner. Do not use window cleaner with white gold – the rhodium plating won’t be able to handle such harsh chemicals. Limit this soak to one minute at a time.
After the window cleaner, dip your ring into the mild dish soap solution, rinse it with warm water, then dry it completely.
3. Shield the Shade
You can use ionic cleaners to clean most diamond jewelry, but the electrical current may mess with the hue of certain gemstones. Consider other cleaning methods for colorful gemstone engagement rings and gemstone jewelry
Better sparkly and safe than sorry! It might feel weird to prep for the worst when you’re still perfecting the filter on your ring selfie, but trust us – make sure to insure your jewelry right away in case it gets lost or stolen. Find out how much your homeowner’s and renter’s policies cover, then look into additional policies like Jewelers Mutual.
2. Choose the Right Policy
Make sure you know what you’re getting into! Here are some good questions to ask while you’re researching diamond jewelryinsurance policies:
Do they offer a deductible or discount if you have a home security system?
Does the policy cover you fully if the item is damaged or lost overseas?
Is the diamond jewelry covered at the full replacement cost, and will they give you a cash settlement or a replacement item?
Which appraisal reports does the insurance company accept, and how often do you need to provide them?
There’s more to taking care of your diamond jewelry, including when to wear your diamonds and where to store them. Read on!

If there’s anything more obsession-worthy than The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, it’s the mid-century aesthetic that lights up the show. We’ve rounded up these 1950s engagement ring fashions in honor of Maisel’s season 2. *Potential spoilers ahead!*
These 1950s engagement ring styles have us swooning around the Upper West Side, dancing along the Seine River, and dropping some Susie-inspired F bombs (… fabulous. What did you think we meant?).
We couldn’t help but notice that Midge is still wearing her glamorous 1950s engagement ring in Maiselseason 2, and we totally get it. Who’d want to take that beauty off??
Mrs. Maisel barely gives us a glimpse of her ring because she moves as quickly as she speaks. From what we can catch, though, her engagement ring from Joel is a yellow gold stunner with side stones. Not a surprise given the costume designers’ keen eye and 1950s engagement ring trends; side stones, especially baguette shape diamonds, were huge at the time.
Female powerhouses in Midge’s era are legendary both for their actions and for their impact on fashion. Take Jackie Kennedy for example, who brought fresh energy to the 1950s engagement ring scene with her emerald engagement ring.
Household name and ingénue Audrey Hepburn sparked yet another alternative engagement ring trend: stackable rings! She opted for a sleek channel-set baguette diamond eternity ring and added two more gold rings when she got married.
Potentially more sacred than Rose’s pink soap: Midge’s pink wardrobe! If her all-pink ensembles are any hint, we think Mrs. Maisel would plotz over a rose gold ring with a pink sapphire center. Mirror her style by setting a gemstone in one of these vintage rings.
Split-shank engagement rings offer elegance with an edge. This delicate open silhouette gives the illusion of multiple rings, going hand-in-hand with the trend of stackable diamond rings. Among the stars who have inspired the decision to make it a double? Sophie Turner, Paris Hilton, and Katharine McPhee.
Time to think it oval! Elongated diamond shapes appear larger than others for their carat size – which is part of why Hailey Baldwin’s oval cut engagement ring from Justin Bieber looks so stunning. 2019 rings feature plenty of this updated brilliant cut diamond.
Engagement ring diamonds are taking a turn for the best! Though we’re personally obsessed with this horizontal style for emerald cut diamonds, it works for any elongated shape (including the 2019 trending oval!). The small orientation switch is a total game changer – east-west diamonds sparkle completely differently and appear more incorporated in their rings.
Thanks to Winter 2018-2019 runway collections, rings are warming up! Yellow gold engagement rings are making a major comeback, accompanied by modern diamond cuts. More good news: this vintage-style metal is as low maintenance as it is luxurious.

Unique engagement rings are the perfect statement pieces for couples who want to stand out from the crowd.
2018 is all about celebrating diversity; the things that allow you to shine as an individual. And what better way of expressing your individual style than with a non-traditional engagement ring?
Unique Engagement Rings: Vive la Différence!
While traditional diamond engagement rings are certainly beautiful in their own way, the world would be a boring place if everyone rocked the same rings. That’s why many couples are drawn to alternative engagement rings. They’re every bit as sparkly and romantic, and they’re often better value too.
Unique Engagement Rings: In Love with the Shape of You
Pinned your hopes on a diamond solitaire but not feeling the traditional round cut? You’re not alone. Many couples today are opting for alternative diamond cuts such as cushion, princess, radiant, and pear.
Unique Engagement Rings: Alternative Rock
Diamonds and engagement rings may go together like a horse and carriage, but there are plenty of non-diamond options that will take you on an equally romantic ride. Besides being a bold look, gemstones tend to be easier on the wallet, so you can afford a larger stone.
Hue and Eye
Show your attention to detail by matching a gemstone to your partner’s eye color. Sapphires, for example, are known to bring out the blue in the wearer’s eyes, whereas emeralds perfectly accentuate green eyes. For the rest of us beautiful brown-eyed folk, it’s a bit more subjective, but amethyst and garnet are both solid choices.
Born to Shine
If your SO is into astrology, choosing the birthstone that’s associated with their birth month can make your gift even more meaningful. Ever since biblical times, birthstones have been renowned for their therapeutic and healing properties. Kings and queens throughout the ages have adorned themselves with these majestic stones, believing them to bring great wealth and power. Legen… wait for it… dary!
Unique Engagement Rings: Hello, Sparkle, My Old Friend
Vintage style engagement rings boast some of the most unique design elements we’ve seen. Intricate detailing and romantic flourishes that harken back to the glitz and glamour of eras past. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind sparkler that transcends time, these vintage style engagement rings are where it’s at.
Unique Engagement Rings: A Lustrous Lineup
Engagement rings typically feature a large center stone that serves as the focal point. But what if you were to forgo the main attraction and instead opt for a ring that features several smaller stones? Radical, I know! Anniversary and stackable rings make for unique engagement rings as the stones are often displayed in creative and eye-catching ways.

Holiday Gift Guide: For the Zen Seeker
The striking violet color of this amethyst gemstone is more than just eye candy. Legend has it that this form of quartz promotes clarity of the mind, relieves stress, and connects you more closely with your mind and soul. Bonus: this ring’s darker shade is totally on-trend.
Arguably the most beautiful plant in the world, the lotus flower has been prominent in Eastern cultures for centuries. The significance behind this particular flower is its ability to rise out of the water from muddy roots – it then blossoms daily into perfectly proportioned petals, without a trace of dirt. A perfect gift to highlight her natural strength and beauty.
If she’s always visiting museums and gallery-hopping, or is an artist herself, look no further than this Art Nouveau-inspired necklace. The center stone comes with a storied past: “topaz” was named after Topazius, what the ancient Greeks called the island of Zebirget in the Red Sea. Blue topaz is also the birthstone for December—perfect for those celebrating birthdays during the holidays.
This delicate bracelet can be worn everyday, dressed up or down. The pavé style lines up the diamonds to appear even more luminous. This bit of sparkle goes a long way.
For those who spend their weekends treasure hunting at bazaars, vintage rings and collectible things will never go out of style. Ruby is the most valuable variety of the mineral corundum (a.k.a. aluminum oxide, the second-hardest mineral after diamond). Impress her with this rare find.
This necklace is strikingly modern and vintage at once with yellow gold and diamond accents. The piece also holds beautiful significance: circles have long been known to represent eternity and wholeness.
In the midst of all the cocktail parties and holiday get-togethers, her emerald and gold piece will be the talk about town. Gift her this pair of earrings with the gemstone notably worn on women such as Elizabeth Taylor and Cleopatra. Best paired with a bottle of champagne.
If you’re planning on popping the question during the holiday season, get thoughtful and customize a unique ring for your one and only. A word to the wise: make sure to check her ring size before ordering. Here’s a design for inspiration, with a timeless halo style and a round diamond that catches light at every angle.

Magnolia Halo Engagement Ring
Magnolia flowers only bloom once a year, and like this ring, their beauty is so worth the wait. The corners of this halo highlight the geometry of its princess cut center diamond.
A ring that rocks from every angle – scroll latticework on the top and bottom edges, diamonds and chevron detailing in the middle, and of course, a breathtaking brilliant cut diamond in the center.

Featuring a wreath of diamond and milgrain-covered petals crafted from yellow gold, this vintage-style ring could have been taken straight out of a classic Greek myth.

This rose gold pear-shaped halo is totally trending. Pear-shaped diamonds are loved for how they make light “dance” and for the elongating effect they have on the wearer’s finger.
Every aspect of this design is obsession-worthy, from the knife-edge pavé band to the oval deep blue sapphire. A sweet surprise: the lotus decorated basket behind the center stone.
Cathedral Star Ruby Engagement Ring
Hello, Hollywood glamour! Drama becomes this scarlet ruby and diamond engagement ring. The design is literally bursting with inspiration – and brings to mind Fergie’s original royal gemstone ring.

Twisted engagement rings put a new spin on the classic solitaire ring setting.
Abbraccio Swirl Engagement Ring by Danhov
Everything is more interesting with a twist: gin and tonic with a twist of lime, M. Night Shyamalan movies, those poles outside barber shops. The same goes for jewelry – namely, twisted engagement rings. Their updated design adds a whimsical and utterly unique touch to an otherwise basic band.
Twisted engagement rings can be fashioned out of one solid metal band, two tightly wound bands, or an open split shank that intersects with itself. For an eye-catching enhancement, choose one that’s studded with pavé diamonds or sporting a shimmering halo.
The Bold & The Beautiful 💍
Contoured Twist Tension Set Engagement Ring
Twisted engagement rings are already a bold look, and silvery metals are in, but this modern tension-set ring brings added drama and sophistication. The wide, sleek band, with its striking contours, is one of the fiercest settings we’ve seen! Can you feel the tension?
The Tulip from Amster-dayum! 🌷
Milgrain Twist Tulip Basket Engagement Ring
This one-of-a-kind solitaire ring has milgrain detailing along the shanks and can be set with a round or princess-cut diamond. Where’s the tulip, you ask? Ah, that’s the twist! It forms the basketfor an extra-romantic surprise.
The Pretzeled Pavé 🥨
Pavé Twist Diamond Engagement Ring
This delicious-looking setting features a liberal sprinkling of pavé diamonds along each of its interwoven bands. These serve to gently accent the center stone… like grains of salt on a pretzel!
The Simply Di-vine 🍃
Twisted Vine Engagement Ring
There ain’t no shine like a twisted vine! This bewitching nature-inspired ring showcases two marquise-shaped pavé-set accents on either side. These leaf-like flourishes flow together seamlessly on a band of lustrous gold.
The Spiraling Solitaire 🌀
Cable Solitaire Engagement Ring
Throw your partner a rope in the form of this charming twisted cable solitaire engagement ring. Tightly interwoven gold cables are a subtle way to let the wearer know you won’t ever let them down. Pair with the matching cable wedding band when you’re ready to tie the knot.
The Coiled Crossover 🔀
Pavé Halo and Twisted Shank Engagement Ring
Keep your fingers crossed for this gorgeous split-shank engagement ring. A pavé halo surrounds the center stone, while additional pavé diamonds line one of the shanks for maximum sparkle.

We love these royal engagement rings. And how’s our royal wave? Well, we’re workin’ on it.
In honor of Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding, we’ve rounded up royal engagement rings favorites and our affordable lookalikes (with price tags way shorter than these royals’ titles). JamesAllen.com is the expert destination for deals on engagement rings and fine jewelry – so whether you want to sparkle like Meghan Markle or glow like Grace Kelly, we’ve got you covered!
Jack Brooksbank proposed without a ring, then Princess Eugenie and he designed a rare pink sapphire showstopper together (hot tip: we’ve found that 60% of women take part in their engagement ring buying process). Their ring is a serious spokesperson (spokes…ring?) for teamwork.
The Lookalike: Pavé Halo Pink Sapphire Engagement Ring
Meghan, Duchess of Sussex (a.k.a. Meghan Markle)
If there’s anything we love more than her love story with Prince Harry, it’s Meghan Markle’s engagement ring! Though we can’t promise side stones that belonged to Princess Diana, our lookalike features a surprise metal swirl detail behind the three diamonds.
The Lookalike: Three-Stone Scroll Engagement Ring
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (a.k.a. Kate Middleton)
Prince William famously proposed to Kate with Princess Diana’s sapphire ring so that his mother could be a part of their wedding, making us cry all the sad and happy tears. Mirror Diana and Kate’s style with this gemstone pop of color.
The Lookalike: Pavé Halo Blue Sapphire Engagement Ring
Elizabeth II, Her Majesty the Queen of England and the Commonwealth
Queen Elizabeth’s engagement ring may not have been featured on The Crown, but its diamonds weretaken from a tiara. As a tribute to his mother (we sense a pattern here…), Prince Phillip proposed with diamonds taken from his royal mum’s headpiece. Copy the Queen Mum’s style with this royal stunner!
The Lookalike: Tapered Side-Stone Engagement Ring
Sarah, Duchess of York (a.k.a. Fergie)
Sure, the relationship between Fergie and Prince Andrew didn’t work out. But can you blame us for obsessing over her fiery ruby engagement ring? A diamond star halo around this gemstone creates a spectacular burst of scarlet.
The Lookalike: Cathedral Star Halo Ruby Engagement Ring
Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco
As a pre-Markle American actress marrying into a royal family, Grace Kelly set the standard for a real-life fairy tale. The Prince of Monaco proposed with a 10.47 carat (!!) emerald cut diamond flanked by baguettes. Oo. La. Love.
The Lookalike: Baguette Three-Stone Engagement Ring

Whether you’re a secret agent or a straight shooter, check out our pro tips for finding her engagement ring style.
Everyone has a personal style. Some are more understated than others and, therefore, harder to discern. Your job as Buyer of Rings, Proposer of Marriage, is to hone in on that style by whatever means necessary. Put on your detective hat and do some snooping around or straight up ask your partner what she’d like. Either way, finding her engagement ring style needn’t be a chore with our handy guide. Just pop on some good music and get sleuthing.
Finding Her Engagement Ring Style: Cut to the Chase
These days, it’s perfectly acceptable – preferable even – to bring your partner into the design process. No one knows the wearer’s style better than the wearer herself, so why not involve her in the decision making? Goodness knows, you’ll need all the help you can get when confronted with terms like pavé, halo, and tension! (That last one’s a setting style btw, not a headache.) By promoting your partner to Chief Ring Adviser, you’ll come across as the sensitive and considerate human being you are while eliminating much of the guesswork. It’s a win-win.
Now, the direct approach won’t work for everyone, mind you. Some customers – proposer and proposee alike – have their hearts set on a solo ring selection, culminating in the Big Reveal. To those irrepressible romantics, we say… read on!
Finding Her Engagement Ring Style: A Spy on the Wall
Like all good detectives, you’ve been waiting for the right case to come along; a case worthy of your powers of deduction. Finding her engagement ring style is right up there with #WhoBitBeyoncé and that whole Yanny vs Laurel thing – except the odds of you solving this one are far higher!
Seriously though, your partner’s online and offline activity might give away key clues about her ring preferences. If she has a Pinterest account, it’s worth checking to see if she’s created any boards with sparkle-related titles or pinned any specific rings. Assuming you have access to her Facebook account, check her profile and activity log for any ring posts she’s liked or shared.
What’s the Buzz?
Even if she’s been careful not to leave a digital trail, she may have confided in her best friend or sibling. Once you’ve got a sparkly bee in your bonnet, it’s almost impossible to keep it to yourself! Listen for subtle hints that might come up when she’s chatting with her inner circle, especially if the topic of celebrity engagement rings comes up.
Finding Her Engagement Ring Style: How She Rolls
When finding her engagement ring style, it often helps to draw on your own personal experience. Presumably, you’ve spent a fair bit of time with your SO and have gleaned an insight or two about her day-to-day.
What kind of lifestyle does she lead? If she has a job or hobby that requires her to wear gloves, she’d be better off with a setting that doesn’t have exposed diamonds on the band. Solitaire and channel-set rings are both practical options as they minimize the risk of the diamonds getting caught or falling out. A less hands-on lifestyle would allow for more exposed diamonds on the band – pavé being the obvious example.

Vintage Inspired Floral Bouquet Engagement Ring
Spiral Tension Set Engagement Ring
If your girl is more Devil Wears Prada than Devil Wears Nada, you might consider a more daring setting. Pay close attention to her wardrobe. If she dresses to impress and won’t touch anything unless it’s by a top designer, go for something with character, such as a vintage engagement ring or hyper-modern tension ring.
If, on the other hand, her idea of glamour is a pair of old jeans and a t-shirt, we’d recommend opting for something simple like a baguette side-stone engagement ring. Understated yet elegant.
If none of the above tips speak to you, no one would fault you for playing it safe and going with a classic style such as a solitaire. This is essentially a single center diamond mounted on a plain setting. Solitaires are considered classics for a reason: they work with practically any individual style and never go out of fashion.
Once you’ve figured out your setting style, it’s time to consider the diamond shape. If you have even the slightest doubt about what shape to get, you can’t go wrong with a round cut. Round-cut diamonds are by far the most popular shape for engagement rings, owing to their perfect geometry and abundant sparkle. These timeless classics are tried and true, but if it’s a little more edge you’re after, a princess or cushion-cut diamond should suffice.

Around-the-World Marriage Proposals: Honduran Homebodies
Pavé Halo Diamond Engagement Ring
Our round-the-world trip starts out in Zamorano, Honduras. Hopeful hubby Aaron left girlfriend Maria a note instructing her to meet him by a tire swing in their neighbor’s yard. As she waited obligingly by the swing, her knight in shining amour pulled up in a red vintage truck. He presented her with a bouquet of flowers and an impossible-to-resist pavé halo diamond ring, to which she couldn’t help but say yes. We love the sheer simplicity of this proposal and can practically taste the homemade baleadas wafting through the air! Read more

Single Row Pavé Infinity Engagement Ring by Martin Flyer
Next, we head north to Edmonton, Canada, and the scene of Carly and Roman’s gushing proposal. Roman whisked Carly off on a helicopter ride, stopping below a glacial waterfall for a picturesque mountaintop picnic. Using the Insta-worthy moment to his advantage, Roman pretended to set up the camera’s self-timer, but secretly hit record. The teary-eyed romantic then took the plunge and presented his love with a single row pavé infinity ring by Martin Flyer. Noticing that he was holding the box upside down, Carly quickly turned it right-side up and said yes through the laughter and the tears. Read more
Around-the-World Marriage Proposals: American Dream
Petite Pavé Engagement Ring
The next leg of our whistle-stop tour takes us to the City of Angels via France. Manon from France and fiancé Andrew from Texas were university sweethearts who somehow managed to make their intercontinental relationship work. While on a trip to Los Angeles to realize Manon’s lifelong dream of hiking to the Hollywood Sign, Andrew got down on one knee and proposed with a petite pavé ring. Serendipity may have brought them together, but it was their James Allen sparkler that made it official. Read more
Around-the-World Marriage Proposals: Mauritian Marvel
Diamond Split Shank Double Halo Pavé Engagement Ring
All the way over on the other side of the world, a man named Arreytambe was planning an altogether more tropical proposal. He invited then-girlfriend Bessem to visit him on the idyllic island of Mauritius, where he had moved for work. After they’d spent some time enjoying all the island has to offer, Arreytambe arranged a private dinner on the beach, complete with waiter service, hidden photographer, and drone cam. Bessem could barely contain her excitement when he got down on one knee and pulled out that diamond split shank double halo pavé ring. And who could blame her? It is quite stunning! Read more
Around-the-World Marriage Proposals: Jamaican Joy Ride
Falling Edge Pavé Diamond Engagement Ring
Our last stop takes us to Kingston, Jamaica and the aptly named Hope Gardens, where churchgoers Karamo and Renee got engaged. Karamo told a blindfolded Renee they were going out for a surprise dinner and drove around in circles to disorient her. In fact, he was planning to pop the question in a part of the sunken garden that he and his friends had decorated. Not even a few brief rain showers could dampen the mood of this joyous occasion. Needless to say, she said yes to him and her falling edge pavé diamond ring (in that order). Read more

This National Coffee Day, make sure your ring selfie is the toast of the town.
There are exactly two things that get us out of bed in the morning: the smell of freshly ground coffee and the sparkle of an engagement ring. Put the two together, and you’ve got an Insta-worthy blend fit for your big announcement.
The Coffee-Flavored Ring Selfie: Baristas of Bling
Our customers are no strangers to the caffeinated ring selfie. They’ve got the presentation down to a fine art, perfectly balancing beverage and bling. These pumpkin-spiced pics give new meaning to #nofilter!
The Bird’s-Eye Brew
To best showcase her cushion outline pavé engagement ring, blogger @arie_carie went for a simple overhead shot. The clever composition places the latte art front and center, but it doesn’t take long for her sparkler to steal the bean.
The Side Sippers
This photo is an intense blend of 5% arabica coffee, 95% James Allen sparkle. @deirdreroache has opted for a classic profile shot that puts her dazzling pavé crown diamond engagement ring in full brew.
Sticking with the side view, @Gkarlijo31 flaunts her petite pavé crown diamond engagement ring while enjoying a cup o’ joe with her SO. If that delicate sparkler on her hand is too subtle a hint, their matching Mr. and Mrs. mugs add some flavor.
Uncomplicated as a cup of instant coffee, this ring selfie says it all with one simple-yet-powerful word. Yes, Jorden B., we dolove your robust pavé halo diamond engagement ring, oval-cut center stone and all.
The soft focus of this “gorgeous” ring selfie by Nicole W. is giving us major Snow White vibes! Her cushion outline pavé engagement ring blends perfectly into the image, creating an ethereal, dreamlike quality. Many cups come pre-printed with cute little phrases like this, but you can always buy a plain cup and have it customized, if that’s more your cup of tea.
The Different Perk-spective
Blogger @hkcung shows off not one but four stunning pavé-set rings; two halo engagement rings with oval and pear center diamonds on one hand, and a petite pavé crown engagement ring and pavé set diamond eternity ring on the other. The photo’s angle lends an interesting perspective that draws the viewer in. The use of bold colors really makes the image pop.
How romantic is this couple’s shot of his and hers rings? @shannondelanyron is rocking an exquisite cushion outline pavé engagement ring while her hubby is sporting a handsome squared groove comfort fit wedding band. Notice how they’ve adopted the same pose, giving the photo a real sense of visual harmony.

Sapphire, the September birthstone, has been associated with royalty for centuries. The gemstone brings to mind Princess Diana’s famous and beautiful sapphire and diamond ring, which now adorns Kate Middleton’s graceful hand (shop a more affordable ring lookalike here!).
Though the most popular sapphire color is blue, sapphire stones also come in pink, green, yellow, and more. Sapphires have forever been a symbol of trust, loyalty and protection. With your sparkler safely in the bag, the next crucial step is keeping the ring a secret so you can successfully pull off your surprise proposal.
Buying the engagement ring is the easy part. Keeping it a secret from your SO is where the real challenge lies. You’re up against an opponent whose curiosity knows no bounds. No sock drawer is safe, no bookshelf off-limits. To pull this off, you’re going to need an airtight game plan and nerves of steel!
In a recent blog post, we weighed the benefits of shopping for a surprise ring versus collaborating with your SO. If you’re dead set on keeping the ring a secret, you’ll want to ensure you don’t leave a footprint – digital or otherwise – that could blow your cover.
Online
When ring shopping online, we strongly recommend doing your homework. However, if you happen to share computers/devices with your SO, make sure you sign out of all their accounts before starting to plan your surprise proposal. Likewise, if you absolutely must print something out (though we’re not sure why you would – this is 2018, people!), don’t leave that smoking gun sitting in your printer tray.
